News & Updates:

The new Camp Safety Project website has been launched! Let us know what you think of the new design.

How can we make camps safer?

Every summer children attend a variety of summer camps in the United States.  Camps offer children an opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, and have fun in an environment outside of their neighborhood.

To many children, summer camp is a fun, enriching and exciting experience.  To some, however, summer camp can be a nightmare.

If the camp does not perform proper background checks of all of their staff, the campers may be at risk.

How The Camp Safety Project Began

This Project began in the late 1990s out of concern over incidents of child sexual abuse in summer camps. Though sexual abuse does not occur in every summer camp, it does and can happen. We have collected stories from survivors from throughout the United States.

We believe that sexual abuse can be prevented and have created this website to offer camps and parents necessary resources. Read more about the Project's History...
